Guest Speaker: Lord Fellowes of West Stafford

Undoubtedly an international treasure, Julian Fellowes’ exceptional talents have touched all four corners of the world. His phenomenal success with Downton Abbey captivated audiences globally and has led to themed Downton Experience Exhibitions as far away as Singapore. Life as an actor first beckoned after Magdalen College Cambridge and study at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. Plaudits were won on both sides of the Atlantic not least for his roles in TV’s Monarch of the Glen and Swallows and Amazons Forever. Screenwriting led to an Oscar for Gosford Park and more glittering prizes were won for his directorial debut with the film Separate Lives. Award winning theatre adaptations have included: Mary Poppins. With Half a Sixpence, School of Rock and Wind in the Willows Julian has three shows running simultaneously in the West End. A new film The Chaperone starring Elizabeth McGovern will hit the screens next year and there are new television series planned for The Gilded Cage and an adaptation of his best selling novel: Belgravia. Apart from the exhausting demands of theatre, film and television, Lord Fellowes is an active member of the House of Lords, Deputy Lieutenant of Dorset and a Patron and supporter of many national and local charities. The Bridport Literary Festival is thrilled and honoured to have him as our esteemed President.
